You need...

Water Phase

Oil Phase

Emulsifying Phase

Start your formulas on a base of 100% of either OZ. or GR.

So a basic formula for a cream would start

Water Phase 60%

Oil Phase 30%

Emulsifying Phase 10%

Lotion

Water Phase 75%

Oil Phase 15%

Emulsifying Phase 10%

Because you are working on 100% bases if you decrease or increase and amount you must incrase or decrease another ingredient by the same %

Example

These 2 formulas contain water so we need a Preservative we will use Phenonip at 1% since we have added an ingredient we have to decrease another one

so now we can do

Water Phase 59% from the 60%

Oil Phase 30%

Emulsifying Phase 10%

Preservative 1%

Now you need a scent which we will add at 2% so now the formula will read

Water Phase 59%

Oil Phase 28% from the 30%

Emulsifying Phase 10%

Preservative 1%

EO/FO 2%

Ok Here we go making a recipe

we are making 50 oz of this lotion

Ingredients....................................... ..........................Amount

Oil Phase

Avacado.......................10% x 50oz = 5.00 oz
Sunflower ....................10% x 50 oz = 5.00 oz
vit. E..............................8% x 50 oz = 4.00 oz

Emulsifying Phase

Emulsifying wax NF........10% x 50 oz = 5.00 oz

Preservative
Phenonip..................1% x 50 oz = .50 oz

Total ......................100%........................ ...........50 oz
