You need...
Water Phase
Oil Phase
Emulsifying Phase
Start your formulas on a base of 100% of either OZ. or GR.
So a basic formula for a cream would start
Water Phase 60%
Oil Phase 30%
Emulsifying Phase 10%
Lotion
Water Phase 75%
Oil Phase 15%
Emulsifying Phase 10%
Because you are working on 100% bases if you decrease or increase and amount you must incrase or decrease another ingredient by the same %
Example
These 2 formulas contain water so we need a Preservative we will use Phenonip at 1% since we have added an ingredient we have to decrease another one
so now we can do
Water Phase 59% from the 60%
Oil Phase 30%
Emulsifying Phase 10%
Preservative 1%
Now you need a scent which we will add at 2% so now the formula will read
Water Phase 59%
Oil Phase 28% from the 30%
Emulsifying Phase 10%
Preservative 1%
EO/FO 2%
Ok Here we go making a recipe
we are making 50 oz of this lotion
Ingredients....................................... ..........................Amount
Distilled water ..............59% x 50 oz = 29.50 oz
Oil Phase
Avacado.......................10% x 50oz = 5.00 oz
Sunflower ....................10% x 50 oz = 5.00 oz
vit. E..............................8% x 50 oz = 4.00 oz
Emulsifying Phase
Emulsifying wax NF........10% x 50 oz = 5.00 oz
Preservative
Phenonip..................1% x 50 oz = .50 oz
Fragrance
Lavender EO.............2% x 50 oz = 1.00oz
Total ......................100%........................ ...........50 oz
combine your Emulsifying wax, and oils. Heat gently in a double boiler to 160 degree( or heat in a micro) Make sure wax is melted
Heat water to 160 drgree when both are heated to 160 degrees slowly pour the water into the oils Mix until thoroughly emulisified
As it cools the mix will get thicker when it is warm not hot add your Phenonip and your EO and blend. Fill your container and let cool completely before closing. :thumbsup

TIP
What I usually do if I see a something I want to try to make I look up the ingredients to see how much is usually in a recipe like if it says use at 1% then I go back and but it at that percentage in my recipe. With so much info. on the interent I haven't ran into any ingredient yet that I haven't found any info for.

Me again!!
I made the lotion formula tonite & it came out more like a cream. I like it but I was wanting a thinner mixture. Could you suggest a way to thin it? Or should I just let well enough alone and try again w/a new mix?
Here's what I did................
water-74%=14.8oz
germaben-1%=.2oz
oils-13%=2.6oz
eo-2%=.4oz
e-wax-10%=2ozI LOVE my NAPPZ :) !!
