Gigglezx's topic about the stupid things people do in/with their cars gave me the idea for this topic.
Do y'all think that driving is more stressful than taking public transportation?
LOL, I get stressed out now just taking the bus because it's crowded; I hate those loud teens that are on the bus; I don't like mofos staring at me on the bus. I'm just tired of sharing my space.
I think that if I had a car, I'd be in my own little space. I can get where I want to go faster (well, depending on traffic). I can have peace and quiet or have music in my car instead of listening to conversations that I don't want to hear. But then I wonder...
Would driving stress me out even more? Like driving carefully to watch out for the other psychos on the road, parking somewhere and getting a ticket, having you car breakdown, etc.?
I still want a car badly...but I'd still like to know what you think.Loc Updates! http://public.fotki.com/cher79/locs-part-2/

<_< that is a thought, because when i catch the bus to the metro. I'm more tired out and stress then driving. First off his cold, got walk a long way to the metro, deal with crowds, stinky folks with bad breath and bad body odor, kids talking loud, and oh the list gets longer.Natural since 1998.

Where I live, driving is more stressful. We don't have a good public transportation system, so it's hardly ever crowded on the bus. Problem is, you have to walk miles to get to the bus stop, which is why so many people drive. People do so many stupid things on the road, though, which is why I hate driving so much.

i think maybe it depends on where you live. in LA (or probably any other big city for that matter), 9 times out of 10, traffic is bad, so to me, driving is very stressful. it also depends on how far you're going. i have a monday-friday commute from the city to the Valley that is only 20 miles, but it takes me at least 45 minutes to an hour on a normal day.
i've only taken public transportation (usually trains) when visiting cities like chicago and new york, and i do have to say that i don't think i'd like to do it on a regular basis. i enjoy my personal space, being able to listen to my own music as loud as i want and not having to smell or sit next to strangers.

Well girl Wash DC is full of nuts on the bus, metro and on the roads. Either way you're bound to be stressed. :lol:Natural since 1998.

I haven't been on public transporation since last year when I took my kids downtown to ESPN Zone and I had to close their ears for all the profanity the youngsters were spewing and the disrespect to elders!
Driving is much more serene and even in traffic I can listen to music that will calm me after someone flips the birdie.... :P

For me, taking public trans is more stressful for all of the reasons the everyone else said (crowded, BO, sitting next to nuts, loud talking, rude bus drivers....i can go on).
But if I had to deal with LA, NYC or ATL traffic on the daily basis, i would go nuts.

As a rule, I prefer to drive. However, we just experienced a little transportation strike around these parts, and I've come to appreciate the public transportation system a little more. Driving was way more expensive (the gas alone doubled), parking in center city Philadelphia is a joke and it took me about 20 minutes longer to get to work (although that could be attributed to the fact that it was a strike, and everybody and their mother was on the road - in separate cars of course).

If I need to go to downtown Chicago, I'll take the Metra or the L. What I've learned to do is because I know there's crowding and crazy conversation going on, I prepare myself and just enjoy my ride. I drive mostly but not downtown.

Well, I've relied on public transportation all my life. My family never owned a car. The bus was very stressful because you had to worry about getting there on time or missing your bus. You also had to know what bus to take and remember where to get off and deal with strangers and babies crying and wierdos with BO. Also, if I had a lot of bags from shopping or something else to carry around it was a pain in the butt. Needless to say, when I got my first car a couple of months ago, I nearly cried with happiness. From now on its me in control. I don't have to rely on no one else to take me from point A to point B, and that's how I like it.
