I use those flexible tools at beauty supply stores or either I'll do bantu knots and pin
them up until dry.

I don't use a tool, i plait my locs and keep them plaited for at least 2/3 days, they end up really curly

Depending on what kind of curl you want...you can use rollers, or like londongal said you could do the plaits and get the braid out look.

For a curl I use perm rods, & setting lotion, then sit under the dryer. For a tight crimp I braid them while wet, for more of a wave look I two loc twist while wet.

I sprayed a little Jamaican Mango and Lime Setting Lotion on my locks and use sponge rollers and got the prettiest curls.

I'm beginning to think that my locs are too thick for curling. And they're just at a stage where it seems they want to be left alone so... for the meantime, I'll have to forgo curling. But I want to....

By far, my favorite is the Soft Spike curlers. They're expensive, but I haven't found anything that leaves lasting curls like they do. Plus, they're comfortable. I don't like to sleep in curlers (how unglamourous), but the curls last 3-4 days. Check 'em out.
