Growing up, I couldn't STAND country music. It made me think of the burning crosses, kkk, etc.
As I've gotten older, it's kind of grown on me. I think of country music as being kind of like Gospel; you don't really appreciate it unitl you're older and have had a few knocks. Also, I think artists like The Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain helped broaden my horizons a little bit. I don't have any CD's by any of them, but when I finally figure out how to download music, I'll be making my own country cd (legally of course :-cre ).
I don't know that names of many of the artists, but there are some songs that I really like. I think country music is hilarious and I like they way they tell a story that most anyone can relate to.
Am I the only one whose familiar with some of the country songs/artists?

You aren't the only one...but I have to be honest, I only listen to about five or six country artists. Most of it just sounds the same to me.
So, I listen to;
Patsy Cline
Toby Keith
Johnny Cash
Jo Dee Messina
Eddie Rabbit
...and that's about it. I think that there's a lot of similarities between early country and the blues, and I love the blues, and I think that some newer country artists are basically rock stars with pop voices. That I can handle. But most country makes me nervous...
What songs do you like?

Hey tjolims,
Let's see, here are some of the ones. Some I know the title, some I don't.
Brokenheartsville
The female singer who's singing, "this is for all the girls about 23 (or whatever age).
Alot of the stuff by Alan Jackson
The song where the guy is talking about how much he loves fishing, and his wife complains about it and gives him an ultimatum...he tells her he's gonna miss her.
Tell me 'bout the good old days
and yes, Toby Keith is really good too. I think it was him that they did an interview with on tv the other night. If I have the right person, if he were a rapper, he would be hard core.

I like Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Faith can really sing her butt off in person. I've seen her perform with some African American choirs before and she's really impressed me with her gospel skills.
And whoever mentioned Patsy Cline gets mad brownie points!! I've never heard or more crisp or clear voice in any genre of music than hers.My Blog: Infinite Ink

I love the Dixie Chicks for their harmonies. I also enjoy Shania Twain, Pam Tillis and Faith Hill.

Yeah, I saw their ad and I want to join, but I think you have to have a credit card. I don't have one. I emailed them to see if they could charge the same way AOL does (phone), but I didn't get a response.
