I use the avocado oil with my shea butter mix. It's very good for my hair and I only need to use a little to soften my hair.

I wash and condition my hair with J/a/s/o/n product and as my hair slowly air dries I add the avocado to my hair. With that my hair stays soft and mosit until my next wash. I have recently been using the oil on my skin. I apply it to my wet skin once I get out of the shower and then I air dry. I dunno if its all in my mind, but it seems as if my skin is changing into a bronze color as if I am tanning( maybe it's just my imagination.. ) If it's all the same I love the oil.

Is Avocado Oil similar in consistency to Castor Oil?

Avocado is thick, but not as thick as castor. For example, you could apply avocado oil to dry hair, but I would never put castor oil on my dry hair. I only apply that stuff wet, or else it feels like I'm ripping my hair out.

Is the avocado oil sold in supermarkets ok to use? (It's meant for salads.) Or is it better to get one from healthfood shop? What about refined as opposed to unrefined?

I am looking foward to using avocado oil in my deep treatments this winter. I want to get the advocado butter to use on my ends.

I've added avocado oil to my shea butter and also to my conditioner mixes. I ordered avocado oil on a whim from http://www.iherb.com. I was definitely satified with the results.
