My locs are almost 10 years old and they are not very firm at all. They feel like a sponge and sort of cottony. I do have firm spots in them where I overtwisted back when I used to twist my roots. Now I just let my roots do their own thing. They are super springy. I can stretch mine down to my butt and then let go and they hit me in the eye. My roots are loose and soft and fluffy.

im 1 year & 4 months in & people say my locs remind them
of cheetoh puffs but much softer! FIRM yet spongey!
they dont "spring out" anymore but they are still in the
"shrinkage" stage! bleh :/ & my roots are thick, wavy, and soft.

One year, six months (wow, really? Time flies...) My loose hair was really, really kinky... Now it's firm but still really soft. They still have little curls at the ends, which I was not expecting! One of my cousins doesn't get it and keeps saying "Are your locs hard yet?" But, hopefully they'll stay this way.

I wash and condition them probably once every three weeks, and use jojoba oil for my scalp (love it!). Spray them every day with Organic Root Olive Oil. When I haven't retwisted in a while, my roots are thick but soft.

Very soft. They're still new though.

My first set of locs were soft and spongy. The second set is just the same but with a silky shine.

They feel much like rope to me at this point. The roots are soft. I have thick locs that do not "spring" or really stretch out much at all if I pull at them. How moist or dry they feel depends on what shampoo I've used and whether I've used conditioner or oils.

Aww, I think this was my first thread on NP! Since 2006, I've had more exposure to locks and I find that no two heads feel the same :-).
