She's trying to feed the baby solid food already??
I didn't start feeding my baby solid food until around month 3 or so.
But, I did make my own baby food. No special "recipe", I just put whatever fruit or veggie in the blender with a little water and pureed it.
I used apples (peeled and cored), carrots, bananas at first.
Later, I'd do spinach or a combo of spinach and carrots and sometimes carrots and apples.
When making your own, you can give baby more of a variety from the stuff in the jars!
Is she nursing? If so, that's pretty much all the baby needs at this stage, IMHO.

One other tip I got from a site I had run across...tell her she can make up a batch of baby food, then pour into an ice tray and freeze.
Then, when she needs to, she can pop out a cube (which is about the normal serving size for an infant) and thaw it.
As baby gets older, up the amount of cubes.

I would recommend not making carrots into baby food. Depending on where(soil content) and how they are grown, they can be rich in compounds that cause methemoglobinemia which is very serious and potentially lethal in infants. Store bought baby food carrots are actually tested and screened to avoid this. Other foods may also have this problem so I suggest your friend get a good reference before undertaking this endeavor. Martha Stewart just had a show on the food network about making baby food. I'm sure she could use organic fruits and veggies for these recipies.

I didn't have any recipes for my son, I just cooked the fruit or vegetable (make sure the fruits or veggies are clean) for about 10-15 minutes (until it was bit soft). Then I'd skin it, then blend to the desired consistancy. My friend saved her baby jars for me and I filled each jar and froze them until needed.
She can try these websites:

I skimmed thru this one and I'm not an advocate of introducing butter and salt in foods for babies, but she can alter the recipe.

steamed butternut squash ( or sweet potaoes)and a good cooking apple like granny smith pureed together. Add a little water to the mix to thin it if you like.
