Don't always assume that expensive means better! Sure some of the more expensive conditioners are great, but if you can get the same effects from a bottle of Suave for $1.29 or VO5 for $.99 (especially after you doctor it with your own mix of oils, EO's whatever), why wouldn't you use the less expensive product?

It is unnecessary to comb and detangle natural hair daily. Once or twice a week is usually enough unless you have very short natural hair. Learn how to finger comb or use a brush to style. When you do detangle, you can expect more hair in the comb because hair sheds daily and it has accumulated. Always remember that your natural hair is beautiful and it has ALWAYS been beautiful.

Always use a good wide tooth comb or detangling brush when detangling your hair. Start from the bottom (ends) and gently work your way up. Make sure that your hair is moist with conditioner or your favorite homemade spritz or moisturizer before you begin. Do not comb dry hair or comb your hair down from the roots to the ends. If you do you will lose more hair than necessary to breakage.

for those who are transitioning: doing vinegar rinses will not make your processed hair revert to its natural texture.

dont color your hair unless you are extra committed to the additional tlc it needs....nappy hair is dry enough...adding color just doubles that
dont be satisfied with dry, hard carpet feeling napps! That is not normal! Keep experimenting, you can get your napps to feeling like cotton

Don't compare your hair texture to someone else's. God wanted you to have that hair for a reason. He makes no mistakes.

Don't overload on vitamins that promote healthy hair and nails. Be careful what you put in your body. Water is good for you all the way around, sip more of it and watch your hair flourish.....

Don't be afraid to take product rec's or advice from a fellow natural who may not share the same texture as you. Just b/c you share a similar hair texture as someone doesn't mean that what they're using will work for you. Be open to learning what works for your hair from all nappies regardless of texture.
