    Wink

We all see lots of "what to do" threads, but this one is twisted :P

Here's how we're gonna do it. You can post ONE "What NOT To Do" tip per post and the reason why not to do it. It could be because of a lesson you've learned or common sense. You may want to spare someone your pain, or state a scientific fact about hair. Keep it positive and helpful.

Let's make this an informative thread that everyone can benefit from!

    ------------------------------

I am going to start by giving my best WHAT NOT TO DO.

Don't obsess about hair length and buy into the hype.

If you concentrate on keeping your hair healthy, it will grow to its fullest extent naturally! For some this is shoulder length. For some it is on the back. Just because your hair may not grow to the lengths of another, doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your hair. It just means your hair growth phase is shorter. Everyone's hair growth phases (anagen, catagen, telogen) are different, and mainly genetically determined.

As long as your hair is healthy, be happy with its condition and flaunt your beautiful head of natural hair!! If you've achieved healthy hair, you've succeeded!

    Ok, I will be next!

Do not load your hair up with lots of products trying to make it shine. <_< Curly hair usually does not shine, but may have a natural sheen. The curls and coils of your hair absorb light and that is why it will not shine like straight hair. Straight hair shines because it reflects light. The smooth part of your puff or twists will usually have a sheen but they will not reflect light like glass!

Don&#39;t be sad that your hair doesn&#39;t look/act/feel like someone else&#39;s hair. It&#39;s unproductive. And for all you know, there&#39;s someone else pining over what you&#39;ve got.

    I said, "Me too."</div>

Blowdryers, and other heat instruments are not your friends. Don&#39;t get sucked into using them to show off length. Your hair will grow better without them and soon you won&#39;t "need" them to show off your length because your length will be there. Don&#39;t and you won&#39;t have to trim the crispy ends ^_^

What not to do to my hair:
    1. Load my hair with products - it makes my hair dull and dry
    2. Press with a hot-stove-comb - damage
    3. Attempting to comb out dry shrunken hair - splits & breakage
    4. Obsess about hair length - not worth it

Don&#39;t think that a product or routine will work for you just because it works for other people. Keep trying different things slowly until you find your "holy grail". And then be flexible enough to change if it stops working as well due to growth, weather, or any number of reasons.

    mats, knots and tangles........

do NOT rip that brush/comb/fingers through your hair when you&#39;re faced with tangles, don&#39;t get frustrated, stressed-out or panic.

Do not become a PJ aka product junkie. What works for one hair type, might not work for yours! You may end up spending lots of money on stuff that doesn&#39;t work and you&#39;ll have a bunch of products junking up your bathroom shelves
With Christ, obediance(please help me Holy Spirit),persistance, patience and His grace, all things are possible!

    Do Not...

wear puffs too frequently. Yeah, it is one of the cutest and simplest styles. But the stress on your hairline can be disastrous.
