I know that Melanizm does this and it seems to work really well. I think there are a few more people who do as well. I am thinking about trying it this weekend and wanted additional tips.

1. Does anyone use this method to stretch their hair for twists or puffs?
2. What size/type and how many rollers do you use?
3. How it different from stretching with braids (as far as the results)?

Pictures of the rollerset and the stretched hair afterwards would be great too Thanks!

i tried this last week only problem was the hair held the curl pretty so i wore it for a few days until i had a curl/fro sorta thing :P

what was really nice about it was it did stretch out my hair and resulted in alot less tangling than if i did a wash n go.

Rollerset, etc.<--scroll down to the bottom.

i used perm rods with end papers.

edited to add: i should have bought bigger rollers, that way it probably wouldn't have had so much curl - but it's all good.

2. Hard rollers. I don't know how many but they're medium size.
3. It comes out straight. Braids just stretch my hair, rollers straighten.

Man, if I remember who has rollerset pics (there's a lot of them) in their album, I'll come back and post links.

she doesn't have to use heat at all - i sure didn't and i own one of them things  .

actually your hair retains lots of moisture when you just allow it to air dry naturally, it's a completely different feeling than using heat.

check out Miss Whitley o'er dare: My First Rollerset

she got curls but if you use bigger rollers, you can just use it to stretch out your hair too!

I don't plan to use heat. I'm wondering if I'll have the same dilemma Mamochan has and it will straighten my hair out completely. I'm thinking about not letting it dry completely and then twisting. My hair doesn't dry completely overnight anyway.

what's a bag of rollers? about 2 bucks or so?

grab one or two sections of hair and experiment. damp would probably give the results you're looking for.

you'll never know unless you try.

Try huge rollers. I think medium rollers pull the hair straight while huge rollers just stretch.

I have done roller setting for a while now. I stretch loose hair sometimes before twisting, and sometimes I stretch while in twists after washing my hair. I will answer your questions below:

. Does anyone use this method to stretch their hair for twists or puffs?

*yes I do for twists, not puffs

2. What size/type and how many rollers do you use?

*It depends on what I am going for. When hair is loose and I am stretching to prepare for twists I use ex large magnetic rolls, large roller, and medium rollers. When My hair is in twists, and I am drying them on the rollers, if I want tighter curls I use smaller rollers, for just bumping the twists I use larger rollers

3. How it different from stretching with braids (as far as the results)?

*I don't care to stretch w/braids too often. I will either band or use magnetic roller. I think it's just personal preference. With the rollers when it's dry I just make sure that section is finger detangled, and start to twist. It's already sectioned for me. But w/ banding or braids, I still have to go through and section, then twist. For me, I prefer to use the rollers. It's faster IMHO. hth
