I've never taken the class, but I've always been fascinated by the talent.
There is a lady here who does these really crazy cakes--she can make anything.
I included her site so ya'll could get a better idea.

...As a matter of fact, this weekend, if I'm not mistaken, they will air a Wedding Cake Challenge. Can't wait to see that! ^_^

Anyway, I used to work at Joann, and their superstores also have $15 dollar cake decorating classes that are given by Wilton. I need to go ahead and sign up for one.
I like the big cookie idea. Mmmmm!

sometimes i watch the cake shows with my mom. but i thought that alot of the eccentric cakes weren't edible and didn't taste as good cuz all of the sugar and frosting and such...
gigglez, have you checked out craftster.org before? there's a baking forum on there and i've often come across photos from users who made unique cakes for their families. check it out! ^_^

Those cakes on the website you posted are so creative!! The one with the expectant mother is too cute. The rubix cube is a good one too! ^_^

Wow Gigglezk! I would've never guessed you loved to bake. I love baking as well, I don't bake as much as I use to but I"m always looking at different cake recipes and such. There's this show on the Food Network called Ace of Cakes, a company based in Maryland, where they bake or create all these elaborate shape/ theme cakes with the fondant and gum paste icing. I love looking at that show. I also like watching the different Food Network Challenges dealing with baking etc. As a matter of fact, this weekend, if I'm not mistaken, they will air a Wedding Cake Challenge. Can't wait to see that! ^_^
In any case, thanks for sharing the information on the classes at Michael's. I may need to consider it.

yeaaah batyah, ace of cakes is what i watched! funnily enough, my fiance is a licensed chef and said while those cakes look great, fondant icing doesn't taste that good lol. that was disappointing.
(im fasting and now having visions of chocolate cake with thick chocolate icing, oh boy my mouth is watering let me get the heck out of here! :boltThanks to my angel who made me PANK again!!!

KB, I've been on craftster for a few years now. I check out that area from time to time. Hopefully, no one kills me for this...but there cakes are good for those with no training, but they aren't spectacular. Just my opinion. I like cakecentral.com better because these are people dedicated to the art of cake decorating.
Empress, YES fondant is just plain old non tasty in my book. This is why brides go through so much cake tasting and request that the flavor of the cake is rich so that it can over shadow the taste of the fondant. It sure does look pretty though.
This is straight up ART!!!!
Some of my favorite cakes I've found on cakecentral.com so far.
