    Thumbs up

I didn't hear about this till this year (I'm probably late), but all of a sudden finding a Dominican stylist is the in thing to do. What is it about them that makes their styling better than the next? I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way or anything, its just I notice certain trends every now and then with hair and I wonder why they start and stop. Can someone please let me know? Thanks!

There are plenty of topics on the Dominicans in the flaming hot tool of hair torture and Blow Dry archives. The Dominicans in my opinion have waged a war against curls, so they are known for getting hair super straight, but they can also permanently straighten your hair from all of the heat.......not a good thing at all! Hope this helps!

heat. That's all I've noticed. I don't even wanna go 'there'. I work with Latinos and a woman (a black woman) called to ask if we have any in our city. If I wasn't an NP member I would have had NO CLUE why she'd even called to ask.

But it must be serious for you to CALL a latino organization to try to find that out. We normally make sure that people aren't being discriminated against or that they know where to find a vet who speaks Spanish. That was very different to me.

Ok, I did a better search and I saw a post in another forum about them called "Dominican Salons, the enemy of natural hair". But how do certain nationalities all of a sudden get the upperhand on who can do hair better? Where does this start at? I feel like its so easy to just jump on the band wagon as soon as someone says something is good, but in the end, they really aren't.

Really? That's interesting...I'm in the midwest but I wonder if it started on the east coast and the news is slowly spreading to the west coast! lol!

it's not so much as a bandwagon thing. ive read a lot of articles, written by a dominican woman and the one thing they HATE there is frizz or the hint of a kink or curl. in their professional society you HAVE to have straight hair, and she said that girls are taught at a young age how to wrap set and torture their hair to get it pin straight.

but NP is not really the place to discuss this. all they do is fry fry and burn and torture your hair. and promote perms if you don't have one. nothing good about any of that in my book
Thanks to my angel who made me PANK again!!!

Yup, I saw this article one time that discussed this very thing, rather sad. It's a shame that people feel this way and even go as far as attacking people verbally and treating them like outcasts if they don't straighten. http://www.miamiherald.com/multimedia/news...art2/index.html

Dominicans typically have nappy hair and they can make ur hair bone stra.ight...but they also damage ur hair..from all the heat...I went to them once but u can't trust them to take care of ur hair...besides only 2 people in there spoke english.
