first off i will say, i absolutely DO NOT find long hair on a man attractive.
but lawd, a black man with long locs...   it always makes me think of the biblical story of Samson for some reason too.

You see, I've bee thinking about this. I believe being natural is an upper-middle class thing. Mostly the college educated do it, especially those who go to liberal arts universities. Plus you need the internet to learn the ropes and the natural products can get expensive. Is naturalness associated with being bougie in the minds of people? Let's discuss...

you guys are making good points, But i have been in (or very Close by) the Projects/Hood my whole life and i have Been natural for 4.5 years. More Middle to Upper class might do it, Because it is More accepted to be yourself, But in the projects its un heard of most times to be a individual (i struggled with that in elementary school, and became my own person in H.S.).
Like i mentioned in my other comment in the hood women tend to all wear the same few styles(r.elaxed and down, kinky twists, micros,or Lots of weave) in the same few colors (usually Platinum Blond,Kool-Aid Red,or plain Black)...Talk alike...and the men have it ALOT easier because they can wear their hair however they like and Not be Judged <_< :angry:http://public.fotki.com/tt1989/ **UPDATED AUGUST 11th 2008**

I'm in North New Jersey area and live in the "hood". What I've noticed is that over the last two years there are more locks in my surrounding area that I dont know what. I totally love it but its not like men , women and kids were loose natural first , they are going STRAIGHT to locks and if I show up to the local skating rink rocking a puff I get looks. The skating rink holds about 100 and I would say more than half have locks. I had my hair braided up one day and it was this young girl with a puff I almost had a happy fit in there but I had it keep looking away I didnt want to get arrested or something
Now on the other hand I WORK in the burbs for a Corporate America company and lets say my nappy hair is a talk around the water coolers sometimes. There are plenty of locks here and I can say about 2 other natural loose nappys like me, (ONE who i converted  ) The one question all the loose nappys get is ARE YOU locking? LOLOL and our response is NOPE , the next question is well what are you going to do to your hair? and my response is WEAR IT
