Ladies, I got confirmation today on something I already knew- do NOT just let a young child with long, thick nappy hair air dry their natural hair and pull it up in a pony puff!
Poor child was screaming and crying as I tried to detangle so I could braid it. I used spritz and CD Loc Butter but it was painful even when I tried to be gentle but her curls/naps were so intertwined with other curls, knots were forming and there was a lot of shed hair!
Ladies, how do you all manage your children's hair on a non-wash day?
ThanksThough she be but little, she is FIERCE!

I try to avoid combing my daughter's hair after it has dried. I do a major comb-out once a week when I'm conditioning her hair. I wash it, put in the conditioner, divide into 4-6 sections and work through each section with a wide tooth comb. I start at the ends and work my way back to the scalp, then I rinse out the conditioner. I try to put her hair in styles that can last a week because combing is difficult when the hair starts off dry even when you use a spritz or spray on detangler. If I put her hair in puffs, I find it's better to braid them at night so they will be easier to fluff out with a pick the next morning.
