Castor Oil: Build Up Or Other Problems

Hi Everyone,

There seems to be so many good things said about castor oil on this list. Has anyone had any bad experiences: build-up?

I just want to check-in before I buy some.

I have wondered this, too. Castor oil is one of the heavier, stickier oils, and I was always reluctant to try it on my hair. I like it on my skin, though .

I've used castor oil on my hair and i've had no bad experiences. i was concerned about build-up but have seen no evidence of it thus far. I use the castor oil sparingly i must admit. A small amount in the palm of my hand and run my hand thru my hair. When im tightening i use it on my roots.

Castor oil is the only thing besides water that moisturizes my locs. i've never had any problems w/ it. I only use maybe a nickel size amount once a week after a wash. the moistures lasts (for me)

I am using caster oil as a base mixed with peppermint and some other oils and it's working great. I think the secret is like every body says: use sparingly.

I LOVE it, no problems. I'll use 1/week and be good for the whole week-in the winter! That says ALOT! A little goes a long way.

I use castor oil and I've not experienced build up - I apply it to my scalp not my hair so this is probably why.

i was once a product junkie, but once i tried the castor oil with a little aloe vera gel the results were amazing.... i used to use honey and the aloe vera gel mix but it made my locs feel too sticky, now i use the castor oil and i dont think there is anything better....jus keep in mind its thick so you dont have to use too much

Used it on loose napps and now on locked napps.... still works great w/no build up.
Ditto on the little goes a long way.
