I've had this current (second) set for less than three years. I'll see how long these will get. I want to be able to pile my locks up on my head. That was my goal for my first set but I cut them before I could get there. I had those from 2002-2008, cut them, had loose hair for about a minute, then twisted them back up to start locks again. *rolls eyes at myself*

I'm by no means a 'veteran'. I've only had mine for 17 months (I'm having a brain fart moment - that's a year and seven months, right?). This is my first real set, but my second (and successful) real attempt at locs. I've already experienced loose hair, as I transitioned for over a year, then wore my natural hair in an afro for a couple years before trying to start organic locs (and failing miserably....). While having loose hair was nice, and it was fun having my big fluffy hair out and wild and free, being so tender-headed, and the hassle of trying to do something to my hair, and my hair being so stubborn, makes me so glad to have locs. I don't see myself being without locs anytime soon. Even if something changed and I ended up with a TWA, it wouldn't be long before I had locs again.

I have been loced for 2.5 years, and I have no intention of taking them down.

My first set was 3 years old.
Second set was little under a year before I had to cut them..
third set 6 years old.
forth set is coming
So all together I have had locs for 10 years
I think vets move on. I will be honest, until I became loose I didn't spend much time on the loc boards.Although I would read and try new things every now and then, my routine was pretty set. In fact I spend more time here since I have not been locked...lol . I'm sure when I embark upon my new loc journey, I will be here looking for new tips and inspiration.

I'm no veteran, will be five years locked next month, hope to keep them for life but I am getting the 'cut them short' urges. I'm trying to grow them for 10 years or at least 7 before I cut (my personal loc challenge) but it would not surprise me if I gave into temptation and cut them down in a bob style way before then.
I do not miss loose hair at all, even with all the tips on NP and youtube that were not around when I went natural I am lazy with my hair so locs suit me to a tee.http://public.fotki.com/Lockyladyden

I had my first set for 14 years. I trimmed them a couple of times during that period.
My current set is one year old.

oh yes definitely but for me its curiosity that stops me from cutting them yet, I know what I look like with short hair since I used to cut it all the time as a permie. As a dread I am curious to see how I look with long hair hence the 7 year to 10 year or wait till I'm 50 growth challenge.
