ok, so i admit it. i'm not as knowledgeable as i should be about our hisory, in africa and in the us. i looked at the thread on conscious bookstores and jotted down some titles, but for some reason i feel like i don't know where to start. i'm looking for any books you can suggest that would be good starting points or must reads.

Eri, this book may be a good start ,Destruction of Black Civilization: Great Issues of Race (4500BC - 2000AD) - Chancellor Williams.

Diops books are fantastic. He was the African Black man to scientifically prove the Egyptians(People of Khemit) were Black!

John Henrik Clarke is also the man.

    No problem.
The encyclopedia seems like a nice concise place to start . I bought it because like you I wanted to get a little more knowledge. I like that it was one big book. Now whether it's lacking because of it being that concise, I haven't discovered that yet. I am not that much of a historian of ANY one culture - I am trying though.

 Thanks for posting these titles.

I hate to admit but I am also not the most culturally aware person. On my way to being natural, I also want to gain knowledge of self...become a more spirtually and culturally aware.

    Thanks again.

What They Never Told You In History- Indus Khamit Kush- my cousin gave me this book when she was at Hampton Univ...I was just starting high school and was so in awe by what was put forth in this book.

The Miseducation of the Negro- Carter G. Woodson- this was the most profound book I have read to date about our history...it's like a cup of strong black coffee....it'll wake you the hell up!

Two books I'd like to add to LotsofLocs very comprehensive list...

From Afrikan Captives to Insane Slaves: The Need for Afrikan History in Solving the "Black" Mental Health Crisis in "America" and the World
    -Yosef Ben-Jochannan

Africa: Mother of Western Civilization-Yosef Ben-Jochannan

This is a good reference book too...will give you a good bibliography to use when looking for additional texts.
