    Thumbs down

I was just thinking the other day: 10 yrs ago, unless you were in New York, you didn't "SEE" this many Locs! This is the first time in the History of America, that sooo many black people are Locking their hair!!!! {in the 70's it was the afro}... during the 90's there was this "Braided-Hair" exposure, and now more and more people are Locking their hair than ever before! {I'm only speaking about America}..... Yet it seems that nobody {at least in the media} is talking about it??? Is it because the "Chemical-Hair-Death-Industry" wants to "ignore" us Naturals, hoping that this is a fad to be tolerated, and soon will disappear?

"I speak for no one, EXCEPT for all the mothers, and grandmothers, and
their daughters who try to live with a concocted white standard of beauty that is absolutely impossible for them to attain.
These inherently beautiful Black girls and women have spent millions and millions of dollars every year in an industry that helped to create an inferiority complex in them and then profits from it." -- Dr. K.

I don't know about the rest of my sisters, but I am glad I found a way to have "MY" Own hair grow Long, AND Natural.
    Peace~

I know what you mean. Where I live there are a good amount of women and men wearing their hair loc'd

It's AmAzInG how blinders can be on our eyes. When I was a "permed crack addict", I use to not like how locs looked. I work with children and the children would say that locs look like dirt and worms. Now that I am a natural and have accepted natural hair as being BEAUTIFUL, I love locs - I love all natural styles - I have actually considered wearing sister locs and jazzing them up with a FIERCE color. Now I don't like permed hair and I feel the need to save my family, friends and everyone from being a "permed crack addict."

I see more whites in my city who grow locs than people of color. Very odd indeed.

Yep, lots of locs here, speaking from NYC. To tell you the truth, you wouldn't really know it until you go to one of the black cultural events during the summer, then you see all the naturals coming out.

I see also unfortunately a lot of weaves and permies as well. They're competing with naturals for dominance so to speak.

What I'm seeing more of is the natural trend with males. Lots of young guys with cornrows and locs here.

I also see more naturals on TV and in the movies. It's here to stay, y'all...the world will just have to get used to it!

natural is creepin' into mainstream faster than most folks realize....especially with the kids startin' to embarass it. You can't find a hiphop video without a locd head in da crowd!

Biggups to E-40 and da Bay Area on dat HYPHY. really promoting locs

I have noticed it a lot too, its not such a stigma anymore...i heard so many negative things about locs when i was younger, so i waited til i was confident that it was right for me...at my school, i see so many locs and fros and twists and everything...its really amazing...and since i have gone natural two my cousins have decided to go natural...one wants locs the other just a twa...even my mom...she cut all her hair off like 5 months after i did the BC...mind you my mom was afro quen up until like 1987...lol
