Spent most of today working in the garden...weeding, pinching back tomato plants and putting down coffee grounds.
Little did I know that there is a nest of yellowjackets living [I think] under that frog hose container. I tried 3 times to wind the hose back, but they chased me away.
DH just came home, I told him what happened, and that we needed to wait until it cooled down to try again...but like [some] guys, he goes out there and shakes the hose!!!! They don't like being messed with. He got 2 stings for his trouble.
He's ok...he's super hot about it...doesn't blame me, though. Tomorrow that nest is cruisin' for a brusin'.

^^ OMG OHRhonda! He is lucky he didn't get more stings than that! One time I was mowing the grass and mowed right over a nest. Next thing I knew they were swarming up like a tornado. I took off and the mower was still on!!!! (I had a string tied on that lever that you hold when you are cutting.) I don't really remember how I turned off the mower... I think a friend came and turned it off for me.
Good luck and be safe tomorrow. It's time to use some chemicals on those suckers!Hair Album http://public.fotki.com/ChocoLattepuffmommi/

Whole garden as of today. Watermelon vine is taking over!
Look what happened while I was gone! Apparently the okra bloomed and fruited in 4 days!
Tomatoes are growing, but they are still green.

See that yellow rope? I had to rig up my tomato plants because they were getting too heavy and leaning to the front.Hair Album http://public.fotki.com/ChocoLattepuffmommi/

^^^Looking good, Chocolatte!
Mustard greens are coming along, green beans are vining out, tomatoes are taking their sweet time, along with the pepper plants. Tops of celery are green and leafy...wonder what's going on underground?

Thank you OHRhonda! Your stuff sounds like it is taking off. I don't know why the tomatoes take so long to be ready. My dad sometimes brings his inside to turn red. About the celery...do the stalks form underground?
Ok, out of curiosity I went back out to be nosey with my watermelons. Look what I found!
A baby watermelon, lol!Hair Album http://public.fotki.com/ChocoLattepuffmommi/

Post Pitures Of Your Gardens
@OHRhonda... My hot pepper & tomato plants are also on their own time... I hope your DH is okay after the stings.
@Chocolatte.... Oh my word, your garden is growing like crazy. Ohhh & the little watermelon is so cute. How many watermelons will you get from one plant?

@ Choco. DH dug out the yellowjacket nest this a.m...looks like the spray took care of 'em Friday night. I put out the Japanese beetle trap yesterday....I wanna tell ya, the lure scent really turns 'em on...I was on the deck this afternoon, and one zoomed by my shoulder so fast........they sure get their freak on in the trap.

Thanks Bella and OHRhonda. Bella, it is my first time growing watermelons, so I am not sure how many each vine produces. I have a lot of vines, but I will be happy to see a few watermelons. I don't need a lot! OhRhonda, you all please be careful dealing with those insects. I haven't seen any Japanese beetles or June bugs yet and I hope I don't see any!
