I read on another discussion list that it takes your hair about 2 days to completely dry. During this time, is there anything in particular that i'm suppose to do or not do? my friend came over today and his locs smelled sour. they look nice, but they smell. he told me that he washed his hair about 4 days ago (they are about 11 months old)...how do u prevent the sour smell? i'm asking because i want to make sure that i don't run into the same problem.

A sour smell usually indicates mildew. So, when the hair is wet, the best thing to do is to let it air dry completely (or you can use a bonnet dryer). Maybe your friend put a scarf or a hat on and his hair was not allowed to dry.
I hope this helps. It also could be product buildup... but since you metioned he had just washed his hair four days ago... it is probably midlew.
