Infused Comfrey Oil

Comfrey oil is a great healer for skin. Use it on dry skin conditions, chafing and irritations. It is effective on scratches, insect bites and minor scrapes.

Make Your Own Comfrey Oil

Comfrey oil blends well with Calendula for use on the skin.  You can also put a little oil in with your conditioners and butters to aid healing of scalp conditions and encourage new growth. Comfrey is called "knitbone" because of it's accelerated healing properties when applied to broken bones and fractures. Comfrey leaf is a more gentle oil than comfrey root oil.

Although comfrey is a great healer, never use the ointment or oil on broken skin, deep wounds or infections because it will heal the surface too fast and before the inside of the wound heals. It is always recommended to heal deep wounds and infections from the inside out, not the outside in!

INGREDIENTS

1 pint Olive Oil (or you can use your favourite carrier)
8 oz Dried Comfrey Leaves OR you can use a ratio of 3/4 leaf to 1/4 root
Pot of boiling water & Glass Bowl (to fit into it) OR a Double Boiler

METHOD

  1. You can use the WARM INFUSION METHOD method or the method that follows:
  2. Place the oil into the glass bowl
  3. Add the dried comfrey mixture to the oil
  4. Place the bowl over a pan of boiling water for 3 hours (or use your double boiler)
  5. Strain, cool, then bottle and seal.

Made this way, your comfrey oil will last for a year.

Ensure you only use the best quality organic comfrey for your infusions as the quality greatly affects the finished product.
