New Article on Moisture

Keeping moisture in your hair so it stays soft and supple can be a challenge but learn the basics and you will be surprised at how easy it is once you know about certain ingredients and what they do to your hair. For instance, did you know products with a glycerine as the main ingredient will dry your hair and make it stiff? Or that putting oil on dry hair does NOTHING for your hair? Or that you should know your strand size may be the reason why your hair will not act like that girl's hair on YouTube tho she has the same hair type?

There's more. Check out my new article. https://www.nappturality.com/product...e-natural-hair

New Here - need help

Hello,

i was really excited to find this forum. I transitioned for 2 years after having my hair relaxed for many many years. My hairdresser cut off the last of my straightened hair in July. The 2 years were long and I wore buns or braids most of that time. Now that i only have natural hair, i have found some products that work for a wash and go. i like wearing my hair out now that it is finally finished transitioning. i was so tired of wearing it up all of the time. My hair is in some places a few inches below my shoulder and in others around chin level. I wash or co-wash once a week or less (10 days sometimes), sometimes deep condition, put product in my hair, pineapple it at night, sleep on a satin pillowcase and then just take it down in the morning. THis wash and go lasts for the week or 10 days staying moisturized. i sometimes refresh product around my edges. My problem - a TON of my hair comes out every time i wash. in fact, the amount of hair looks like a small black rodent. i have heard that you have to lose a lot of hair before you will notice that it is getting thinner and i would just as soon not wait for that. I don't notice a difference in the apparent thickness of my hair (other than my temples are much thinner than they ever were when i was relaxing my hair, but that may be due to age and hormones). I never lost this much hair when i was relaxing it. Any suggestions? SORRY for the long post. Thank you for reading!

Random Nappy Thoughts Summer 2019

Today I started taking a collagen supplement supposed to help with hair and nails! If I see a difference I will let you know - my temple area was a victim of thyroid medication overdose.

Who remembers integration and bussing?

As a result of the integration policies of the 60s, 70s

Trying to start a conversation here about something not often spoken about but brought back into the spotlight by Kamala Harris. A lot of us are over 40 now and may have some experiences to share about integration and bussing.

Personally I wasn't bussed but I remember when others were.

I'm interested in hearing your stories.

Can We Talk About the Dem Debates?

Everyone is talking about how Biden has the Black woman vote on lock. I'm not so sure about this. I see his approval among us being more from his familiarity with us than with his policy. He represents to me the safe, easy (lazy) Democratic voter. I am one of those people who likes Biden, who he is and how he handles himself - but when I saw Kamala up against him on that debate stage and listened to her personal stories, she moved up a few notches with me. Picture Biden as Trump - she eviscerates her opponents by by being prepared, succinct and laser focused. Biden was shocked by her prowess and that diminished him in my eyes.

Kamala nailed it.

As far as the other candidates worth mentioning, Bernie Sanders was the same old Bernie Sanders. Nothing new and everything I expected.
Buttigieg - not a champion for Black people
Swalwell - mayo with hot sauce
Gillibrand - vanilla pistachio ice cream
Bennett - hot fritos with a side of whine

The rest...... meh

Hello

I’m new at this. I’ve never had a relaxer but have always straightened my hair. I want to start a natural journey and use less heat but my texture is straight due to so much heat over the years. How and where do I start? There are tons of products ????

Natural hair timing

Hi all.
I was planning on starting my natural journey this weekend but we got hit was a severe thunderstorm warning and the humidity has spiked to about 45% in the past 12 hours. Would it be a better idea to wait until the weather calms down or is now as good a time as any to start?
I would appreciate any input.

Thank you!

DNA Kits

My sister had her DNA done through one of those kits you can order online. Surprising results! ... has anyone on here had one done? What was your experience?

I don't like the idea of sending my DNA off to whoever, but maybe I'm just paranoid.

Menopause and Weight Gain

If you haven't seen this information about hormones and fat - and you are struggling with losing weight in your 40s and beyond, you need to watch this video by Lynee Urban. As someone who has always been skinny up until perimenopause came in, this information has been invaluable to me.

https://www.facebook.com/lynee.urban...3745920975998/

You can't eat how you used to, because the changes in your hormones are interfering with your fat burning processes. So it's time to learn about how to make some changes.

She has given permission for me to share this video and tell you about the information for her upcoming seminar that will cover this topic and more. You can register online and attend over the internet if you can't appear in person. Definitely worthwhile if you are having trouble with weight at this time of your life.

Go Back to Where You Came From

I would venture to say that 99.9% of us have at some stage been told to GO BACK to Africa. And I'd also venture to say you remember when it happened.

I was in elementary school - about 7 or 8. A classmate bully named Gregory Streeter said it to me. I didn't understand what he meant at first, but then he went into this insult-laden commentary about how my skin was dirty because it was brown and started laughing at me. That's when I started to cry.

But I also remembered my other classmates, especially my friends Liz and Jennifer (whom I am still friends with to this day) coming to my rescue and him getting punished by my teacher and having to apologize to me.

Over the years, it has been shouted across the street at me and my friends, it's happened in clubs. 'Go back to [wherever].'

The fact that repulsiveness is coming out of the mouth of this president* doesn't shock or even surprise me. In fact, the only surprise is that it has taken this long for him to say it out loud. He is a racist. He has always been a racist. He was a racist when he was sued by the State of NY for housing discrimination against people of color. He was a racist when he demanded the execution of 5 innocent Black boys. He was a racist when he and his family of cretins stated birtherism. He was a racist when he spoke of a Muslim ban. He has shown us who he is and continues to show us who he is.

What I'm waiting to see is what kind of country the USA is, because his support among the republicans is soaring after these comments against the black and brown Congresswomen.

Are we heading for another civil war against white nationalists? Sure looks like it to me.

Hi there

Hi! My name is Whitney. Technically I have always been natural but I was taught to keep my hair in braids, wigs, weaves, pressed. Honestly I don’t even know what my hair truly looks like because I will take it out of one form of braids, wash, blow dry and it will be braided again the following day.
I don’t have patience when it comes to hair and makeup so I figured if I need to take this much care of a wig that will eventually get thrown away I may as well take care of my own hair which will last until I decide to cut it. Saturday the wig is coming off and the hair is coming out.

Really excited, really scared.
Any advice is welcome.
