Changing Names of Ingredients
Do you check the ingredients when you are looking for hair products? You should. I have already written several articles about the dangers of certain chemicals and ingredients used in creating Black hair care products and which to avoid. You can find one here and another one here.
Always check the ingredients
Watch out, some companies are changing up the names of certain ingredients in hair products, and using alternative names. You may not recognize what they are when you read them.
For instance, as "paraffinum liquidum" – sounds nice, kind of like a herb extract or something. It's not.
It's MINERAL OIL. Also known as petrolatum, this product may moisturize and soften your hair in the short term, (by short term I mean after a single use), but it builds up with multiple applications to the point where you need a strong clarifying shampoo to strip it. Meanwhile it attracts dust, making your hair dull and ashy as it creates an impenetrable barrier, locking moisture out of your hair, drying it out. On skin, it coats and clogs your pores, which can lead to inflammatory conditions. It also locks moisture out when it coats, so you need to remove it daily and thoroughly before reapplication.
There are many other re-named ingredients – so if you see something you do not recognize, google it. You may be surprised at what it really is!
